FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Here you’ll find a quick overview of the questions we’ve been asked at past events…
Who is behind Darmstadt kocht?
We are a group of volunteers from Darmstadt who love to cook and meet new people.
When is the next event?
On Saturday, May 24, 2025.
→ The appetizer starts at 6:00 PM.
→ The afterparty begins around 11:00 PM at the Goldene Krone.
Is there going to be another event?
We try to organize Darmstadt kocht! about twice a year. Maybe you’ll have time to join us next time! If you don’t want to miss the next round, simply sign up for our newsletter to stay updated, or follow us on Instagram.
Where is it taking place?
The event takes place in Darmstadt apartments, shared flats (and maybe even gardens). After the meal, we’ll gather for a relaxed after-party at a central location.
How do I sign up?
On the “Registration” page, fill out the form, click “register,” and you’ll be signed up for Darmstadt Kocht. Afterward, you will receive a confirmation email. If you experience any technical issues, feel free to contact us.
Is it free?
Yes! – Darmstadt Kocht! is completely free, as we operate on a voluntary basis! However, you will need to provide food and drinks for your guests.
Of course, we would appreciate any donations to help cover our costs. 😉
Can I sign up with another person?
Unfortunately, it’s too complex from an organizational standpoint to plan Darmstadt Kocht! with optional team registrations. For this reason, you can only sign up individually this time. Don’t worry: Our experience shows that the evening will still be fun and relaxed!
Is there a fixed Schedule?
Ideally, you should meet up in the afternoon to do the final shopping and prepare your dish. Make sure to give yourselves enough time to arrive on time for the appetizer.
At 6:00 PM, Darmstadt Kocht! kicks off with a delicious appetizer at your first hosts’ place. Even though it can be hard to leave, remember to say your goodbyes in time so you can be punctual for the next course.
At 7:30 PM, the main course awaits you at the second apartment! You’ll have a little more time here before heading to the next apartment for dessert.
By 9:30 PM, you should be at your final hosts’ place, where the dessert will be ready!
From 11:00 PM, all participants will gather to chat, get to know each other better, and wrap up the evening together.
I don't have a suitable kitchen or a living room for 6 people – can I still join?
No problem! Just mention in your registration that you don’t have a kitchen, and we’ll assign you a cooking partner with a kitchen. Please note that without a kitchen, we can’t guarantee your participation. Maybe you can borrow a folding chair from your neighbors!
There’s very little space in my kitchen!
Maybe you have space for a small appetizer or dessert? In that case, just mention in your registration that you have an “emergency kitchen.” We try to use as few emergency kitchens as possible.
I don’t live in Darmstadt, I’m from Pfungstadt / Weiterstadt / etc. – can I still sign up?
Of course! However, due to the long distance, we won’t be able to use your kitchen and will assign you a cooking partner from Darmstadt.
What happens once everyone has finished their dessert?
Starting at 11 PM, we’ll all meet up to wrap up the evening together. Here, you’ll reconnect with all your new acquaintances and share stories about your dishes.
I would like to cook something unusual, but I don't have the necessary cooking utensils.
Check out Heinerleih! Here, you can rent equipment and more (like a pasta machine, deep fryer, crepe maker, chocolate fountain, ice cream maker, Thermomix).
Do I have to cook a luxury meal if I want to participate?
No, of course not! There are no requirements for your dish, but a unique and especially delicious meal will definitely earn more praise – and we all know how much chefs love compliments!
I follow a vegan/vegetarian diet...
In the registration, you have the option to indicate whether you prefer vegetarian or vegan meals, or if you have any other dietary preferences. Feel free to also mention if you’re open to trying everything that’s served to you!
I have food intolerances or allergies, can you accommodate that?
Please indicate in the registration if you have any allergies or intolerances that need to be considered while cooking. We will do our best to assign you to a suitable group.
Can we choose the apartments and the food?
No. A central idea for this evening is to discover new apartments and meet new people.
Will my cooking partner be randomly assigned?
Not exactly. We try to match cooking teams with similar food preferences and a small age difference. However, the most important factor is that there are enough kitchens available.
Will it be randomly assigned where I will visit with my cooking partner?
Not exactly. When assigning teams, we make sure that you have short distances between courses, and that the final course is near the afterparty location. This way, you’ll have more time to get to know each other!
I'm unable to sign up because the form isn't working on my device.
Send your registration directly by email to anmeldung(at)darmstadtkocht.de. Please make sure to include all the information from the form in your email.
I signed up, but I haven't received any message or confirmation yet.
Please be patient a little longer. We will send all the important information about one week before the event.
How will I know when and where I need to be with whom?
Once all participants have registered, we will randomly assign the teams and send you all the details as soon as possible! You will also receive a phone number where we can be reached on the night of the event, in case you need quick assistance with directions.
What do I need to bring?
A little appetite, the desire to cook and prepare something, and an openness to meeting new people.
What is the registration deadline?
Please make sure to register by May 15, 2025, so that we can plan the evening and assign the teams. If you register too late, we unfortunately cannot guarantee a spot.
Missed the deadline?
Feel free to register anyway! We always need lovely people on the “waiting list,” and with a bit of luck, we can organize a small Darmstadt Kocht! round for everyone!
